The casinos

Every casino on this site, and what it lets you try

Eighty-three international brands with the four boxes filled in, ordered by what can be tried for nothing rather than by what we think of the casino. The Spanish, Ontario and Alberta editions of these names are separate sites with separate licences, and they sit on the page written for their own market.

Ad disclosure: some casino links are affiliate links; we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never affects what we write about a casino, and it never changes the four boxes, which carry what we could verify and nothing else. 18+.

Why the order is what it is, and why it looks wrong at first glance

A list sorted by what can be tried for nothing does not look like a list of the best casinos in the world, and anybody arriving from a site that publishes marks out of ten will find the top of this one surprising. That is the intended result rather than an accident of the sorting, because the only thing ranked here is how much of a brand's free play could be established from outside it (the record, not the reputation).

The arithmetic is fixed and we print it so that a reader can disagree with it precisely rather than vaguely. An open "demo" counts three, a trial that opens without an account counts three, an offer needing no deposit counts two, a tournament open at no charge counts two, and an entry we could not establish counts less than a plain yes (three, three, two, two, and a discount for a gap).

The order is a result and not a verdict. The consequence is visible in the first screen of the table. A small brand whose lobby opens a game to anybody stands above a large and well-run brand whose lobby asks for an account first, and no part of that order reflects what anybody here thinks of either of them. A reader after the best-run casino in the world is on the wrong page, and should go and read a page that claims to answer that question.

What each of the four columns actually asks

The first column, "Demo", asks whether a free version of a game exists at all on the software that brand runs ("demo mode" on most platforms, "fun mode" on a few). Of the 83 rows in the table, 22 answer yes without qualification, 29 answer partly, and 32 could not be established in either direction (22, 29 and 32, which is the shape of the whole record in one line).

The second, "No sign-up", asks whether that trial starts before an account does, and it is the column that separates a useful record from a brochure. Thirteen rows answer yes, nine answer partly, 29 answer with a flat no, and 32 remain unverified; a good many of those refusals are a rule rather than a commercial choice, because two European markets shut the free version inside a gaming account (a "Spielkonto", in the German treaty's own word for it).

The third, "No deposit", asks whether the brand credits anything without a payment going in. Eighteen rows answer yes, 38 answer no on the operator's own pages, and 27 could not be established (18, 38 and 27, out of the same 83); on the pages written for Ontario and for Alberta this column says nothing at all, because the standards there allow an incentive to be named only on the operator's own site.

The fourth, "Tourneys", asks whether any tournament takes entries without a fee (a "freeroll", to use the word the trade uses). Fourteen rows answer yes, seven answer partly, and 62 are unverified, which makes this the largest hole in the record and the one we are least able to close from the outside!

The two columns that are not questions at all

"Platform" names the software under the brand, and for a reader in a hurry it is the most useful column on the page. It is the software, not the brand, that decides whether a game tile will open for a visitor who never logged in anywhere. Two brands on one platform do the same thing when a game tile is clicked, so a reader who learns one platform has learned every brand sitting on it, and the twelve platforms are compared on a page of their own.

"Licence" carries the authority and the holding company as the public register writes them, which is not always how the footer of a casino writes them. Where the register gives a number we print the number (the number, the authority and the company that holds it), where an operator names no regulator at all we say so, and in a few rows the wording ends with a note that the number still needs confirming.

The four marks, and the one that carries the most information

A tick means "yes", read at the source and working as described, a tilde means "partly", a cross means "no", and a question mark means the entry could not be established in either direction. The legend sits under the table as well, because a glyph without a key is decoration.

"Partly" is the mark worth understanding, since it is doing real work in 29 of the demo answers. It means the thing exists with a condition attached that changes the answer for a reader: on one platform the trial is enabled title by title, through a flag in the lobby feed named "is_fun_mode" (43 games open and 65 closed on a single brand's page), and on another it opens only after registration and a successful validation.

"Not verified" is the mark that most sites of this kind do not possess, and it appears here more often than any of us would like. Seventy-two of the 83 rows carry at least one entry at that level (72 of 83, and printing it costs us more than hiding it would), which is a statement about the reach of our reading rather than about the casinos; the page on our method sets out the refusals, the region blocks and the unreadable lobbies that produced it.

Why the table is shorter than the record behind it

The record holds 104 brands and the table shows 83 rows, and the missing twenty-one are not omissions. A Spanish, Ontario or Alberta edition of a brand is a separate site with a separate licence (eleven Spanish, eight Ontario, two Alberta), and each of those sits on the page written for its market rather than here.

The reason is practical rather than editorial. Those sites decline a player who arrives from outside their market, so listing them on an international page would send most readers to a registration form that will refuse them, and a table that wastes a reader's click is worse than a shorter table.

83 casinos, and what each one lets you try. The order follows the record, not our opinion of the casino: a brand with an open demo sits above a better-run brand that has none. The licence column carries the authority and the holding company as the register writes them.

How to use this table against us

Any row in it can be checked in about a minute, and that is the only property that makes a record of this kind worth keeping at all. A table nobody can check is an opinion with ruled lines around it! Pick a brand, open the operator's own help pages, and look for the two sentences that decide the first two columns: whether a trial exists, and whether it opens before an account does.

What settles it is the operator's own wording rather than a screenshot or a review, and the wording is usually easy to find under a heading about playing for free (free games, demo play, practice mode, whatever that operator calls it). Where you find a sentence that contradicts a box, the box is wrong and ours is the mistake, not yours.

That is also the quickest way to improve the site, and the editorial address is on our contact page. Send the row, the sentence and the date of your reading; the row gets corrected with a fresh date, and the one thing that will not happen is an argument about it.

Why is the casino I came for missing from the table?

Either it is not on our list at all, or the row you want is its Spanish, Ontario or Alberta edition, which lives on the page written for that market. The table shows 83 international rows out of the 104 records behind it.

Why is a brand nobody has heard of at the top?

Because the sort weighs what can be tried for nothing and weighs nothing else. A small brand whose games open to anybody answers yes four times, and that puts it above names with a hundred times its marketing budget.

What does a question mark in a cell mean?

That the entry could not be established in either direction, which is not the same as a no. Seventy-two of the 83 rows carry at least one cell at that level, and the method page explains what stopped the reading.

Are the licence details taken from the casino's own footer?

No, they come from the public register of the authority that issued the licence, which is occasionally worded differently and sometimes contradicts the footer. Where a number still needs confirming, the row says so in as many words.

Each one with the authority that registered it, as the register writes it.
